Maria Galvagna Mesinger’s complex general litigation practice includes experience in commercial litigation, internal corporate investigations, white collar criminal defense, and representation of individuals and corporations before various state and federal agencies and boards, including the representation of attorneys before the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers.
Maria’s experience covers a wide range of areas, including:

• Representation of individuals who have been investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission
• Representation of officers and directors of a number of banks in connection with litigation brought by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and corresponding investigations conducted by the U.S. Attorneys’ office
• Representation of corporate officers in ERISA litigation
• Litigation of commercial disputes involving lender liability issues
• Representation of individuals and businesses in contractual, employment, and professional liability cases
• Class action defense, including Telephone Consumer Protection Act and Wage Act and Employee misclassification claims
• Tax Fraud defense in Federal and State courts
Maria is a former legal counsel for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts House of Representatives Committee on Ethics, where she compiled the first comprehensive Code of Ethics for use by House members. She was also an Assistant Attorney General, initially serving as Legislative Counsel to the Attorney General then prosecuting tax fraud and larceny cases and handling appeals while in the Employment Security Division of the Criminal Bureau.
Maria has served as a case conciliator in the Boston Municipal Court/Boston Bar Association Case Management program since its inception. She meets with parties involved in civil litigation to review case status, streamline issues, explore resolution, and otherwise prepare the matter for trial. She served two terms as a Hearing Officer for the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers, where she conducted hearings on formal charges of misconduct upon reference by the Board.
Outside of her practice, Maria maintains involvement with various facets of her community. She is a Board Member of the Grants Management Committee of the Essex County Community Foundation and served as the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Stevens Memorial Library in North Andover. She was appointed as a Citizen Advocate to the North Andover Town Meeting by the Town Moderator and has served on numerous North Andover town committees.
