Lawson & Weitzen, LLP, is pleased to announce that our partner, Pamela Bankert, has been named as General Counsel to Final Exit Network, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, which has been integral to the Death With Dignity movement for more than 17 years. Final Exit Network is dedicated to the civil and human right to determine one’s own time of death when suffering with terminal illness or incurable disease, including those circumstances where there are no available treatment options left or the options are intolerable to the client.
At present, ten states have Medical-Aid-In-Dying laws (Washington, Oregon, California, Maine, Vermont, New Jersey, Hawaii, New Mexico, Colorado, and Montana), as well as Washington D.C. Medical Aid in Dying legislation has yet to be passed in Massachusetts, having failed by one vote in 2012. The issue will likely be up for consideration by the Massachusetts Legislature in September of 2021.
Pam has been a partner of the firm, managing the Cape Cod office since 1989. She will continue serving her Cape client base in the areas of Family Law and Estate & Probate. Lawson & Weitzen congratulates Pam on this wonderful accomplishment and looks forward to supporting her in this new role.
